About Lee Oberlander

After 40 years in the construction business, at the drafting table and on construction sites, I yearned for color. The linear world of blueprints and building materials was too predictable. Too expected.

For my second act I became an artist, converting my warehouse to a studio and letting the paint fly. When I’m working at my easel, I succumb to a magical mix of right-brain abstraction and heady emotions, a full-body process that is pure joy for me to experience.

I draw inspiration daily from the world around me, whether it’s the curve of a mannequin’s arm in a store window or the geometric whorl of a desert succulent. My work is rooted in a deep appreciation of the true colors of nature, Eastern philosophies and my artist idol, David Hockney.

For the last few years, it’s been a meditative release and one heck of a technicolor ride.
